Centera to HCP

If you’re currently contemplating a move off Centera, consider all of the available options and think carefully about the scope of your object storage strategies and how easily you can achieve your current and future goals with a single solution.

Reciprocal has partnered with Hitachi Data Systems offering a product called HCAP (Hitachi Content Archive Platform). It takes the approach of indexing the metadata and content as the files were written to the archive, so that HCAP has awareness of the content and could provide event-based updating of the full text and metadata index as retention status changed or as files were deleted. While CAS solutions focused on storing content, HCAP is focused on accessing it. The interfaces to HCAP are non-proprietary, supporting NFS, CIFS, SMTP, WebDAV and HTTP and supported policy-based integration from many distributed or centralised repositories such as e-mail, file systems, databases, applications and content or document management systems. The elimination of silos enables users to leverage a set of common and unified archive services such as centralised search, policy-based retention, authentication and protection.

Take a Fresh Look at your Centera Infrastructure

Reciprocal will Improve your visibility of your data; both age and location.

HCP is a secure, distributed, object–based storage system designed to deliver smart web-scale solutions. HCP obviates the need for a siloed approach to storing an assortment of unstructured content. With massive scale, multiple storage tiers, multi-tenancy and configurable attributes for each tenant, HCP can support a range of applications on a single HCP instance and combine the data for in-depth investigations.

HCP has support for additional interfaces like Amazon S3 and Open Stack Swift, the latest advances in server and storage technology, like VMware and erasure coding, and the numerous advances in security, clustering, and data management enhancements.

Benefits to HCP

Here are some recommendations if you’re evaluating new object storage options:

Industry standard Migration Tools

Utilisation of HCP as Corp Standard Content Cloud Platform

Utilise proven migration solution for Centera Platform and Applications

End-to-End Service Solution for Centera to HCP migration for all Application technologies

Enables Shutdown of Centera and access to apps/data from HCP

Simplify future Application upgrades, management costs, migrations

Allows for cutover of application independently

Applications remain in a supported environment post cutover

Validation/Performance Testing

Centera Migration Performance? Speed and feed – Speed depends on file size and number of files. Smaller files migrate slower but more files per minute whereas larger files use a higher bandwidth. Smaller files migrate between 1 and 3TB per day, larger files between 6 and 10TB per day.

Efficiency

Clip size

Parallelism – All migrations can be run in parallel with separate threads to allow each application to migrate independently from each other, thereby allowing for applications to be cutover when each migration is complete.

What type of information is needed to perform a health check assessment? Centera health reports should be provided to allow for the project to be sized correctly and provide initial assessment CPAR.

What is the performance impact during migration? All migrations are started slowly, and the threads increased while working with the storage and application teams to ensure there is no impact to the applications or storage. Threads are increased until the optimum migration rate is achieved.

Can you throttle the migration? All migrations can be throttled with automated schedules for in- and out-of-business-hours and, if required, immediately throttled in the event of any issues.
